Five Stone of Lead

Background: In researching stories for our Postcards platform, our team unearthed an Irish sub-culture known locally as ‘flapping'.  It is an enchanting world - grassroots horse-racing communities where young jockeys race in silks on the beaches of the wild west coast.  We began casting and discovered a gem: a tiny 12 year old jockey called Dylan.

"A loving portrait of a tightly-knit community" - Short of the Week

Outcome: The film was released online via our Postcards platform, and earned wide coverage in both traditional and new media - from Vimeo Staff Pick, Short of the Week and Directors Notes to National Geographic, Esquire and the Irish Times. The film caught the eye of the biggest names in sport including Sir AP McCoy, Will Greenwood and Clare Balding, who all shared the film to their followers.

The film had a wonderful outcome in that AP McCoy, the legendary 20 time Champion Jockey, saw something of himself in young Dylan and got in touch with us to invite Dylan to stay with him in England.  Dylan opened an invitation letter from AP on Christmas Day.  AP spent 3 days together with the lad, riding out, working on technique and introducing him to trainers.  We were humbled that our film could have such a positive impact of Dylan’s life.
